On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, an online obituary reported that Courtney Kampa had deceased in an automobile accident. She was a writer, poet, and instructor. Elizebeth Foss announced her passing on her Facebook.

The automobile crash’s specifics aren’t public, but we’ll let you know if we learn any additional information. Funeral plans have not yet been made public.

Everyone is grieving, including her friends and relatives, who are all posting tributes and condolences on social media and praying for her eternal life.

Virginia is where Courtney Kampa was born and raised. At the University of Virginia, she received a BA, and Columbia University awarded her an MFA from 2017 to 2019. Among other publications, her poetry has appeared in Boston Review, Triquarterly, and Best New Poets.
In addition to being a nominee for the 2016 Ruth Lilly Prize, Courtney Kampa received the 2014 Rattle Poetry Prize Readers’ Choice Award.

Our Lady of No Why, Courtney Kampa’s debut novel, has been chosen by Mary Szybist, the National Book Award winner for the 2019 Press’s First Book Award.

She was a finalist for the 2016 Ruth Lilly Award. Her work has appeared in The Boston Review, Three Quarterly, The Wall Street Journal, Missouri Review, National Poetry Review, and New The England Review, among other publications. She has also won accolades from Best New Poets, The Atlantic, Poets & Writers Magazine, The North American Review, and other publications.

She won the David Craig Austin Memorial Award for Distinguished Essay from Columbia University in 2014. Before her death, she was based in Nashville, Tennessee, teaching writing and poetry.
