A hip hop and R&B recording artist and dancer from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Brandon Smith, best known by his stage name B. Smyth, reportedly passed away at 28. Due to respiratory distress, he passed away this morning.

In a video uploaded on Smyth’s official Instagram page, his older brother Denzil Smith confirmed the information. Funeral plans will be revealed later.

He added, “Today, unfortunately, I must announce that my brother passed away this morning from respiratory failure following a lengthy struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.” While he was in the intensive care unit, “my brother was delighted to see a lot of people make challenges for his newest released track #Twerkoholic part 2; it gave a big grin to his face.

Everyone, including his friends, relatives, and supporters, paid respect to him, expressed their condolences on social media, and remembered him in their prayers for his afterlife.

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Brandon Smith was born in 1994. Smith began his career by uploading copies of well-known songs to YouTube. Some of these covers, such as “Stay” by Rihanna and “Quickie” by Miguel, have amassed over 500,000 views.

His videos got him positions on many high-profile talent shows, where his performance style was compared to that of well-known performers Chris Brown and Usher.

Smyth signed a record deal with Motown Records in 2012 due to his talent events performance. On December 11, 2012, he released “Leggo,” a collaboration with 2 Chainz, as his first song. The song peaked at No. 20 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and No. 41 on the U.S. R&B Songs List.

Smyth changed record labels from Motown to RCA Records and ByStorm Entertainment. Smyth’s debut single with ByStorm and RCA, “Creep,” featuring Young Thug, was released on December 4. The song’s creator is Dun D.
