Obituary for Joseph Hayden at Ricker Funeral Homes & Crematory
Joseph Hayden
November 30, 1946 – November 11, 2022
Joseph Hayden passed away peacefully on November 11th at his home on Canaan Street, Canaan, New Hampshire. He was born on November 30, 1946, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, to Genevieve A. (Jensen) and Joseph L. Haydukiwecz. In 1964, he graduated from Metuchen High School in New Jersey and earned a B.S. degree in Geology from Memphis State; later, he earned a B.S. degree in Forest Management from the University of Maine. He was commissioned Ensign in the Navy after being drafted in 1971 and was sent to Naval Pilot Flight School in Pensacola, Florida. Following his service, Joe formed Delaware Woodlands, his forestry consulting business, in 1981. He married Sandy, the love of his life, on December 24, 1982. After the birth of their son in 1986, Joe became a devoted stay-at-home dad for the next several years. Eventually rejoining the workforce, he retired from Home Depot in 2012 after twelve years as Inventory Manager for the Christiana, Delaware store.
Joe was an avid model railroad enthusiast and a ‘ham’ radio operator, as well as a curious and adventurous cook and baker. In addition to his love of reading, he took immense pleasure reminiscing about his time on Canaan Street throughout the years – his favorite place on Earth.
Joe is survived by his wife Sandra, his son Benjamin, son-in-law Christopher Wolcott, all of Canaan, NH, and brother and sister-in-law, David and Terri Haydukiwecz, of Talent, OR.
Services will be held at The Old North Church, Canaan Street, Canaan, NH on Saturday, November 19th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mascoma Community Health Center, P.O. Box 550, Canaan, NH 03741.
